Job summary: Responsible for working with operations, maintenance and technical services to improve the processes and productivity and reduce costs in the steelmaking department. Troubleshoot specific process concerns as directed.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Evaluate and design the workflow process with the steelmaking department. Develop, assist on installation and follow up on new and improved process improvements within the entire steelmaking process. Design and test the production processes. Diagnose failures, determine solutions and make suggestions for improvement. Create reports with cost and time estimates for each project.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a four year college or university and three years related experience and/or training; will consider comparable work experience in lieu of degree.

Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Computer skills: Excellent computer skills including use of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail. Proficient in Wonderware HMI programming.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Familiarization with ISO9001 and ISO17025 certification process preferred.

Other skills and abilities: Excellent analytical and logic skills, effective communication skills, strong project management and leadership skills, understanding of manufacturing, processing, and production, ability to work well with other engineers on the same project. Excellent leadership presentation and reasoning skills. Good mechanical aptitude. Assertive and goal oriented, self-starter with a positive attitude. Must be organized and be able to interface effectively with other members of supervision and personnel from all departments.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. Frequently required to sit.

Work environment: Must be able to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the workplace is occasionally loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and vibrations.
